Black History 2011

In honor of Black History Month,  New Hope is sponsoring “A Taste of Soul” on Wednesday evening, February 16th.  Festivities will begin at 6 pm and last until 8:30 pm in the Minnie Mikes Hall.  This is the fourth year for this very popular event and you are encouraged to participate by preparing your favorite soul food dish and bringing it in to share.  There will also be other unique ways to honor the contributions African-Americans have made to the life and vitality of this country.

As you may know, a commemoration of the contributions of African-Americans dates back to the 1920’s when Dr. Carter G. Woodson established a Black History Week. After many years, it was expanded to a month long celebration.  The month of February was selected because of the birthday of President Abraham Lincoln, author of the Emancipation Proclamation.

Please make plans now to join us on February 16th at 6 pm. Please list the dish you wish to bring and your contact information as directed on the sign-up sheet located in the vestibule. One of the team members will contact you. You can also sign-up through the "contact us" feature on this website.
