In honor of Black History Month, the Phoebe Women’s Ministry of New Hope is sponsoring “A Taste of Soul” on Wednesday evening, February 10th.Festivities will begin at 6 pm and last until 8:30 pm in the Minnie Mikes Hall. This is the third year for this very popular event and you are encouraged to participate by preparing your favorite soul food dish and bringing it in to share. There will also be video and dramatic presentations as well as other unique ways to honor the contributions African-Americans have made to the life and vitality of this country.
As you may know, a commemoration of the contributions of African-Americans dates back to the 1920’s when Dr. Carter G. Woodson established a Black History Week. After many years, it was expanded to a month long celebration. The month of February was selected because of the birthday of President Abraham Lincoln, author of the Emancipation Proclamation.
Please make plans now to join us on February 10th at 6 pm.If you have any questions at all, please direct them to Sis. Renita Young, Phoebe Ministry Leader. You can contact her through the “contact us” section of this website.
